APDS-9930 Ambient Light Sensor & Proximity Module

The APDS-9930 provides an I²C-compatible Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) and an infrared (IR) LED proximity sensor in a single 8-pin package. The ALS uses dual photodiodes to approximate the human eye's response to light, providing low-lumen performance down to 0.01 lux. Its high sensitivity enables operation behind dark glass. The proximity sensor is fully calibrated to detect objects up to 100 mm, eliminating the need for factory calibration of end devices or sub-assemblies. Proximity detection functions effectively across diverse conditions, from bright sunlight to dark rooms. The module incorporates micro-optics lenses for efficient transmission and reception of IR energy, reducing overall power consumption. Furthermore, an internal state machine allows the device to enter a low-power mode, achieving extremely low average power consumption.
